A Walk Around Gyllyngdune GardensThe Princess Pavilion complex is set in acres of beautiful public gardensHistorical Background of Gyllyngdune Gardens and the Princess Pavilion In 1838 the Rev WJ Cope was appointed Rector of Falmouth Parish Church and he acquired the estate of Gyllyngdune on the cliff top between De Pass Road and Membly Hall. In 1840 he constructed Gyllyngdune House and also built the small 'chapel' on the seafront. After he died the estate was sold to Sampson Waters, who in turn sold it to Falmouth Town Council in 1903. ![]() Jazz from the Bandstand Falmouth Town Council's first task in developing the site for the improvement of the town was to build Cliff Road along the seafront boundary of the estate. They next created GyllyngduneGardens and these were completed in 1907. The official opening was conducted from the bandstand situated in the gardens. The Princess Pavilion was added in 1910. The Gardens Today Adjacent to the Princess Pavilion complex are the upper GyllyngduneGardens; consisting of the verandah, original Edwardian bandstand and greenhouse. The gardens are used for garden fetes and afternoon and evening band concerts. This section of the gardens is set out formally and is extremely well cared for, being an exquisite vista during the spring and summer season for the residents and visitors to Falmouth.
